“Jam jars store jam. The Sun Jar collects and stores sunshine so that you can use it at night!”
Because I’m not on the computer enough during the week, I decided to spend my Saturday morning poking around the web for interesting things to talk about. In the process, I stumbled on this great little item featured on Suck UK and designed by Tobias Wong. It’s a solar-powered LED lamp called the Sun Jar – it comes in three neat colors and it’s a fun, smart way to add little evening glow without adding to your electric bill!
How the Sun Jar Works:
I must say the diagram offered by Suck UK is much more interesting, but the short of it is this:
- Remove Sun Jar from box.
- Sit on a windowsill or somewhere else in DIRECT sunlight.
- Leave it in the sun for a few hours as solar sensors soak up the rays and juice up the built-in rechargeable battery.
- Wait for sunset and your Sun Jar will illuminate automatically for up to 5 hours on a single full charge!
- Repeat tomorrow …
You can turn off the “automatic on” switch if you prefer to conserve and simply use the light as needed. It’s an excellent idea for nighttime lighting in any room that’s eco-friendly and fun, too! Oh, and did I mention it comes in 3 colors? Bonus!
